Path of Exile 2 introduces three niche-but-powerful crafting layers that most players ignore until they're deep enough in maps to regret it: Archaic Runes, Resistance Fluxes, and Liquid Emotions. None of them are explained with any real dignity in the game. So here we are.
Think of them as the crafting system's weird cousins. They don't replace your orbs: they live in a completely different room of the house and do things nothing else can. Mess with PoE2 jewel crafting on a budget? Liquid Emotions. Drowning in fire res but somehow have zero lightning? Flux that garbage away. Want your talisman to actually do something cool when you stun a rare? Rune it.
These three systems are fully independent. You can use all three on the same character. There's no shared cooldown, no conflict: just more ways to min-max your way to either glory or a very expensive PoE 2 leveling.
Liquid Emotions are the only crafting currency in PoE2 designed exclusively for jewels. You find them, you click them on a jewel, and one random property gets yeeted into the void and replaced with something new. Simple in concept; deeply chaotic in execution: which is honestly on-brand for this game.

The PoE2 jewel crafting ecosystem is surprisingly slim: which makes Liquid Emotions more important than they look. If you've bricked half your desired jewel affixes and can't afford a full reroll, these are your lifeline. Or your executioner. Depends on the day.
Fluxes solve a problem that PoE veterans know intimately: you've got 200% fire resistance on your gear and somehow your lightning cap is sitting at 40%. The game laughs at you. Fluxes are the clap-back. They perform alchemical transmutation of resistances: converting one resistance type on an item into another.
Apply a Flux to an item carrying a resistance you don't need. The Flux converts that resistance into a different one that you specify (or that the Flux targets by type). The value doesn't disappear: it changes element. Bloated fire res becomes useful lightning res. No more screaming at your tooltip.
Practical Use PoE 2 builds
Fluxes are one of those items you hoard for weeks, forget they exist, then suddenly desperately need at 3am when you're two resistances short of your final atlas boss run. Keep them in a labeled stash tab. Future you will feel gratitude instead of shame.
Fluxes convert resistance values: they don't add new ones. If an item doesn't already have the resistance type you're trying to convert from, the Flux does nothing useful. Check your item before applying.
Archaic Rune slot mechanics are the most mechanically dense of the three systems. Runes are inserted into specific weapon or jewelry slots: not universally applicable, but targeted. Each Rune is designed for a specific equipment type, and the effects they provide are entirely unique: you cannot replicate them through normal affixes or orb-crafting.
The flavor is appropriately unhinged. Runes feel like enchantments from a culture that no longer exists, doing things the current crafting meta didn't think to allow.

Surpassing Chance is a mechanic introduced exclusively by the Archaic Rune of Splinters. It's not a guaranteed extra arrow: it's a probabilistic one. A +50% Surpassing Chance means each arrow has a 50% shot at spawning a bonus projectile. Bow builds that already scale projectile count will find this stacks disgustingly well. It's the kind of mechanic that sounds mild until you're looking at twelve arrows where six were supposed to be.
