Marvel Rivals Shenloong Tournament Guide

The Shenloong Tournament event is a free 12-tier progression pass tied to Marvel Rivals Season 8.5. Play matches, earn XP, climb tiers, collect cosmetics. No premium purchase. NetEase wants your time, not your wallet: for once.

The event lives inside the broader mid-season update that also delivered Cyclops, the new K'un-Lun: Shenloong Arena map, and Bounty Annihilation. Consider this the appetizer. The main course is 36 people screaming at each other in a 18v18 blender.

Dates: June 12, 2026 at 09:00 UTC → July 10, 2026 at 08:59 UTC. Miss it and the Groot skin is gone. Not our problem.

XP & Tier Mechanics

You need 1,800 XP per tier and there are 12 tiers. Daily cap sits at 7,200 XP: four tiers a day if you somehow have no responsibilities. Every match contributes. Wins likely give more; the patch notes are mercifully vague on exact values.

K'un-Lun: Shenloong Arena

The K'un-Lun Shenloong Arena map is a dedicated battleground built exclusively for Bounty Annihilation. Lush environments, vibrant colors, and the spiritual weight of a mystical martial arts tournament: plus 35 other people ruining it.

The map is designed around large-scale engagements. Wide corridors, choke points that become meat grinders, and elevation that rewards ranged dominance. It is currently unavailable on Xbox Series S due to "performance limitations," which is the polite way of saying the hardware taps out.

Map Layout Notes

  • Larger than standard 6v6 maps to accommodate 18 players per side.
  • Central hall becomes the primary kill zone: do not wander in alone.
  • Flanks exist but are punished by random enemy spawns. Plan accordingly.
  • Zone control matters more here than in any other mode.

Bounty Annihilation: 18v18

This is the Bounty Annihilation mode guide you actually need. Forget 6v6 instincts. No hero restrictions, no team-up triggers across team boundaries: all 18 on your side can queue the same character. The meta mutates.

What Works

  • AoE ultimates and wide-radius damage: Moon Knight, Iron Man, Storm. Spray into crowds, collect kills.
  • Cyclops: his ricochet optic beam was built for dense groups. Embarrassingly good here.
  • Jeff (Strategist): primary attacks hit multiple targets. Healing while dealing damage is a personality trait.
  • Namor + Hela team-up: summons constantly pressure enemy clusters.
  • Area denial heroes: if they can't stand somewhere, they don't.

What Doesn't Work

  • Single-target specialists: Spider-Man, Hawkeye, Black Widow. You will feel useless.
  • Dive compositions: there is no isolated target to pick. You will dive into 18 people.
  • Individual flanks: enemies spawn everywhere. Your flank is their spawn point.

Core loop: Stay with your cluster. Target the bounty target if one is active. AoE abilities into the central mass. Do not be a hero. You are already in a game full of them.

The 18v18 hero shooter strategy here is deceptively simple: sustainability and output beat flash plays. Positioning and zone control decide more rounds than mechanics. If you insist on playing Hawkeye, that is your choice to mourn privately.

Cyclops: New Duelist

The 51st hero. Cyclops brings a ricochet optic beam and self-repositioning mechanics, making him the best new hero Season 8.5 for the Shenloong Arena specifically. His beams bounce between enemies in dense packs. In a 36-player lobby, dense packs are the only kind that exist.

His team-up with Wolverine: called Blast Slash: is a new Season 8.5 addition. Functional in 6v6; largely irrelevant in 18v18 where team-ups don't activate across squads. Use him anyway. The beam does the talking.

Marvel Rivals Shenloong Tournament Guide FAQ

Is anything in the Shenloong Tournament actually paid?

No. All 12 tiers are free. You can buy tier skips for 200 Lattice each. Impatience costs money.

How long does it realistically take to finish the event pass?

Three days at the daily XP cap. Spread across the 28-day window, it's nothing. Play normally.

Is Bounty Annihilation available on all platforms?

No. Xbox Series S is excluded at launch due to performance limits. The hardware couldn't handle 36 heroes.

Does hero selection matter in 18v18 Bounty Annihilation?

AoE heroes and healers dominate. Single-target snipers underperform badly. Pick accordingly or regret it.

What happens if I miss the July 10 deadline?

The event closes. Groot's Ironwood Serpent skin is gone. NetEase will not feel guilty about this.
