12 June, 2026

Marvel Rivals Season 8.5 launched June 12, 2026, under the banner SINS OF ALCHEMAX. The patch adds Cyclops as the 51st hero, drops a new 18v18 mode, opens two timed events, and somehow calls this a mid-season update. It is not a small patch.
The headline feature is Bounty Annihilation — an Arcade mode that takes the game's defining 6v6 format and triples it. Thirty-six players. One dedicated map. Points scored by elimination. Think Battlefield Conquest, except every player can be the same character if the team collectively decides to be insufferable about it.
Xbox Series S players: Bounty Annihilation is temporarily unavailable on your console due to performance limitations. No timeline given.
The mode runs on K'un-Lun Shenloong Arena, a map built specifically to not implode under 36 simultaneous ultimates. It is tied narratively to the Heavenly Cities tournament — the Immortal Weapons reached the finals, and you are apparently involved. The lore excuse is fine.

No hero restrictions means no team composition strategy. The entire metagame of counters, synergies, and team-ups collapses into a free-for-all. If your team runs 18 Iron Men, that is a valid team composition. It is also a cry for help, but it remains valid.
Scoring note: Every kill counts. This is pure team deathmatch logic. Dying is a liability, not a reset. Staying alive denies the enemy points and keeps your own contribution ticking.
Forget standard team compositions. With 18 players per side, the Bounty Annihilation best heroes are the ones who scale with volume — crowd control, AOE, and sustain all become disproportionately strong when there are always 18 valid targets in front of you.
Positioning and zone control matter more here than in 6v6. Personal duels still happen, but the players who win games are the ones holding angles that drain the enemy team's point potential, not just chasing eliminations into chaos.
