Black Widow finally works. Marvel Rivals Season 9 axed her one-shot sniper, gave a new ultimate, stamina-free flanking, and fresh team-ups.

The Marvel Rivals Black Widow rework shipped with Season 9 on July 10, 2026, and it does not gently adjust her, it euthanizes the old character. NetEase stripped out her default sniper scope, sped up her normal fire, gave her a brand new ultimate, and added a close range slam, converting a stationary hitscan sniper into an aggressive flanker.
Nobody has to guess why. In Black Widow Season 9, the fix trades one-shot pressure for sustained close-range threat, so a single lucky headshot from across the map is no longer her entire personality. She is now, by design, a Black Widow flanking Duelist, and the old backline camping playstyle is dead weight in the new kit.
| Aspect | Old Kit | New Kit |
|---|---|---|
| Primary weapon | Bolt-action sniper with ADS scope | Fast-firing Red Room Rifle usable in nearly every engagement |
| One-shot potential | Full headshot kill from range | Removed entirely from her normal attack |
| Mobility | Sprint, kick, and jump gated by stamina | Same moveset, but stamina cost is gone |
| Old ultimate | Signature ability, low impact | Demoted to a regular ability |
| New tool | None | Ground slam dealing AoE damage on landing |
If you mained the old sniper Widow, congratulations, that skill is now worthless. Old-kit habits actively lose games, and queuing her to camp a corner and wait for a headshot is a guaranteed way to feed the enemy team.
The Black Widow new ultimate is the only place the sniper fantasy survives. Activating it drops her into ADS sniper mode for twenty seconds, letting her fire up to six powerful shots, and the bullets now carry a wider hitbox, so even non-critical hits deal real damage. Outside of those twenty seconds, the scope does not exist for her anymore.
She kept both of her Season 8 partners, and the effects are worth learning before you queue. With Hawkeye, she builds focus and hits targets more reliably in a focused state, while the Phoenix pairing gives her rifle a fire rate boost and turns the Plasma Cannon into a hitscan laser with a second charge, no charging required. Learning both Black Widow team-up abilities is not optional if you want to stop dying to divers.
The core Black Widow combos revolve around her spinning kick. Landing the kick launches enemies into the air, and hitting it lets her grapple to the target for a second kick, closing distance before she chains into rifle fire or melee. Firing the rifle at long range is a damage loss, so anyone still poking from across the map is playing the old hero in the new patch, badly.
The numbers look grim and mean nothing yet. Black Widow currently posts the lowest win rate in the game at 43.9 percent across all ranks, but in Diamond and above she has already climbed to B tier and is trending upward. Every match right now is someone's first attempt on a character that did not exist a month ago, so treat the raw Marvel Rivals tier list placement as noise, not gospel.

Season 9 removed her sniper scope and one-shot damage, replacing them with a fast rifle, free mobility, and a new ultimate.
The rework launched with Marvel Rivals Season 9 on July 10, 2026, alongside Jubilee's debut and a full team-up overhaul.
Yes, but only through her ultimate, which grants twenty seconds of scoped fire with six powerful shots and wide hitboxes.
Her win rate looks low because everyone is relearning her, but ranked data already shows her climbing toward B tier.
Hawkeye boosts her focus and accuracy, while Phoenix upgrades her rifle and plasma blast into a stronger, hitscan laser attack.
