The Marathon Assassin shell is built for exactly this kind of high-value, high-visibility objective play. The core abilities: camouflage, smoke, and invisibility: give you tools to both complete the purification and survive the ambushes that come with it. During the server slam, a well-played Assassin shell nearly wiped a full squad at the purification station using smoke and invisibility alone. The assassin's camouflage ability allows for defensive repositioning mid-fight, letting you disengage, reset, and re-engage on your terms rather than theirs.
The Purple core Marathon upgrades available for the Assassin shell are particularly nasty in this context. One upgrade extends invisibility and Q duration significantly: perfect for extended purification defense. Another converts the smoke plume into an area-denial tool that damages and staggers enemies who walk through it. Running the Marathon Anomalous Matter Event solo is technically possible and genuinely not recommended unless you enjoy suffering on a schedule. Here's why: the AI difficulty does not scale down for solos. The noise you make doing Marathon PvE events solo attracts every player in the instance. And in solo lobbies, virtually everyone is running the Marathon Assassin shell, playing invisibly in corners, ratting for the whole raid and only engaging when they have an overwhelming advantage. You're loud. They're silent. Math is not on your side.

It's horrible. It's wonderful. Most of you will hate it.
Since we're being honest: Marathon ratting strategies dominate solo play. The majority of solo players encountered during testing were running Assassin shells and playing as close to invisible as the game allows. This creates a slower, more oppressive solo environment that some players love and others find mind-numbing. If you're going to attempt the Anomalous Matter Event solo, consider this your official notice that the second you touch that distortion field, the rats come out. Every one of them. All at once. Good luck. You'll need it, and also better positioning, and also probably more heals than you brought.
