Division 2 Exotic Farming Guide
Y8S2 flipped the Dark Zone. No Rogue, full Toxicity, hunters still hunting. Here's the build and farming loop that actually survives DZ East solo.
Year 8 Season 2 "Into the Dark" launched June 16, 2026 and turned the Dark Zone into three separate experiences running simultaneously. Division 2 Dark Zone PvE is now a real mode — DZ East runs Rogue-off, 12 agents maximum, full squad support. Nobody shoots you in the back. The environment does that instead.

Zone |
Ruleset |
Notable |
|
DZ East |
PvE Only (Toxic) |
No Rogue. Toxicity builds. Hunters still try to murder you. |
|
DZ West |
Normalized PvPvE |
SHD Watch disabled. Everyone is equally weak. |
|
DZ South |
Standard |
Classic chaos. Players will betray you. You knew this. |
The PvE zone is the primary landmark farming Dark Zone loop this season. Hyenas are pumped on Potent Spice, hit harder than usual, and the air actively tries to kill you via Toxicity. Welcome.
Toxicity stacks from the moment you enter. It's a pressure mechanic: debuffs accumulate the longer you stay, and certain enemies make it worse faster. The three Hostile Modifiers each interact with it differently:
How to clear Toxicity: Activate a Surged Active Modifier: enters a safe house or checkpoint: leave the zone entirely. That's it. Those are your options.
The Division 2 Toxicity mechanic punishes passive play. Sitting in cover farming headshots while a Plague Doctor circles you is how you end a run in five minutes. Move, kill the modifier enemies first, Surge when the meter gets uncomfortable.

Sample Cannisters are the seasonal resource. They drop directly into inventory: no extraction required. This is the Division 2 Sample Cannister farming priority order, sorted by how much your time is actually worth:
|
Source |
Amount |
Notes |
|
Landmark Chests (PvE DZ) |
Large (guaranteed) |
Primary loop. Run landmarks, open chests, repeat. |
|
Material Chests (PvE DZ) |
Medium (guaranteed) |
Grab every one. Zero reason not to. |
|
Hyena enemies (PvE DZ) |
Medium |
Chance drop. You're killing them anyway. |
|
Hyenas in open world missions |
Small |
Better than nothing. Barely. |
|
Other factions |
Greatly reduced |
Forget it. Wrong faction, wrong season. |
Every Cannister submitted at the seasonal vendor (Base of Operations, next to the Specialization table) grants 5 High-Quality Munitions stacks and fills the Sample Size bar, unlocking cumulative passive bonuses. Stacks deplete only when you reload from an empty magazine: mid-mag reloads cost nothing. This means the Chatterbox exotic SMG and other high-RPM weapons that suppress reloading become mechanically stronger this season, not just stylistically satisfying.
PvP Dark Zones drop 200% more Cannisters. If you can stomach other players existing, DZ South pays better. Math is math.
Three modifiers exist. Each has a base version and a Surged version triggered by spending Cannisters on activation. Surge also reduces Toxicity in the PvE zone, making Cannister management doubly important:
|
Modifier |
Base Effect |
Surge Bonus |
Best For |
|
Invincible |
Full heal + armor repair + high damage reduction window. Damage stored and applied on end. |
+10% Armor on Kill, +50% Damage to TOOC, stored damage reduced, bonus armor persists 20s longer. |
Solo players who get surrounded. Which is everyone. |
|
Pneuma |
Increased weapon swap speed. Kill-type stacking bonuses (MMR/Rifle = headshot, AR/LMG = crit, Shotgun/SMG = crit dmg). |
Higher stack caps, bonus stacks for specific kill conditions per category. |
Weapon-swapping hybrid builds. |
|
Vicarious |
Scales Skill Efficiency, Skill Damage, and Healing by ally/enemy count in radius at activation. |
Further Skill Efficiency increase and healing output. |
Skill builds. Group play. |
Solo landmark farming? Take Invincible. When hunters arrive and the modifier ends with stored damage queued up, just don't panic. The build covered below keeps you alive through it.
The goal is one loadout that clears landmarks, survives hunters, and works whether six randoms are stealing your kills or you're the only person in the instance. The Division 2 best solo DZ build Y8S2 logic: armor regen over armor-on-kill (because other agents will take your kills), bonus armor from proximity rather than from trophies, and Protection from Elites on everything because hunters hit like trucks made of trucks.
|
Slot |
Item |
Why |
|
Mask |
Gthas Mask |
Heal on demand, extra damage, cleanses status effects. Momento requires kills. Gthas does not. |
|
Chest |
Bston (Armor Regen) |
Armor regen > armor on kill in a populated server. Tick up between engagements. |
|
Holster |
Salvo (or Matador) |
Rate of fire + extra damage. Improvised piece works if Matador unavailable. |
|
Remaining |
Improvised pieces |
Craft them for the extra mod slot. Stack every slot with Protection from Elites mods. |
|
Gloves |
Crit Damage + Hazard |
Standard. No surprises. |
|
Knee Pads |
Crit Damage + Hazard |
Same. |
Firewall. The decoy striker shield gives damage buffs to anyone behind you with enemies in front. The more enemies, the more damage. In landmark farming, there are always enemies. The damage bonus per enemy reaches 15% with mods. The Firewall specialization Dark Zone is not the most obvious choice: it pays off specifically because of how landmark encounters are structured: surrounded, constant pressure, group benefit without requiring group coordination.
|
Weapon |
Role |
Why It Works |
|
Chatterbox (Exotic SMG) |
Primary |
High RPM, rarely reloads, melts clustered enemies. Landmark spawns surround you. This punishes that. |
|
Scorpio (Exotic Shotgun) |
Hunter closer |
Applies status effects that stop hunters from running and nullifies their healing. Situational but decisive. |
|
Any LMG / Lexington |
Alternative |
Works. Reload penalty is rough until High-Quality Munitions passives are unlocked. |
Important: Toggle PvP stats in your stat screen when running in the DZ. Prototype gear inflates crit chance in open world: it normalizes down inside. What you see in PvP mode is what you actually have.
The Division 2 landmark farming guide for Y8S2 is not complicated. Complexity comes from Toxicity mismanagement and fighting in the wrong order:
Do NOT AFK in a safe house. You will be logged out. Your contaminated loot will vanish. The game will feel nothing.
Elite enemies in lower-tier landmarks die fast. The actual threat is the hunter spawns on extraction and, in harder landmarks, the elite captains. Both reasons to keep Protection from Elites capped and to stop ignoring Gthas Mask triggers.
Hunters in the Division 2 Dark Zone hunter spawn context appear on extraction. In a group, more hunters spawn. They do not care about your build. They hit through armor, throw skill disruptions, and heal on a loop when you can't melee them.
The fastest way to stop a hunter from healing: Scorpio. Status effects prevent the escape and interrupt the healing cycle. If you're on Chatterbox and the hunter heals three times, that's on you for not swapping. The gameplay confirms it: the hunter will out-sustain bullet spray alone if given distance.
|
Situation |
Action |
|
Hunter healing repeatedly |
Swap to Scorpio, apply status, push in and melee to interrupt |
|
Hunter throws skill |
Dodge the zone, re-engage from different angle |
|
Multiple hunters (group) |
Activate Invincible Surge before engaging, use shield damage bonus |
|
Solo, low armor |
Gthas Mask proc for rapid heal, reposition, do not panic reload |
Killing hunters gives good drops. Eagle Bearer has dropped from hunter kills this season. Loot other dead agents too: if a player goes down, their drops are claimable. The DZ PvE economy quietly rewards scavengers.
Y8S2 ships with new gear. The Division 2 Y8S2 Caduceus exotic is the Season Pass AR: critical hits repair you and all allies for 3% of damage dealt. Fixed mods total +15% Crit Chance, +5% Crit Damage, 40-round magazine. Passive team sustain without burning a skill slot. Relevant if your group never has a dedicated healer, which is every group.
The Underboss is an Exotic SMG (Climax Mission, Master difficulty, guaranteed drop). Gangland Hit talent: shoot an enemy to mark them, transfer the mark by shooting another. Up to 4 marks stack across agents using the same weapon, adding +5% amplified damage per mark beyond your own. Solo it's +20%. In a full squad running the same weapon it's a significant multiplier. Requires coordination. Most squads will not coordinate.

Yes. Chatterbox is optimal for landmarks due to sustained fire. Scorpio is better specifically for shutting down hunter healing cycles on extraction.
Momento requires your kills for bonuses. Other agents steal kills constantly. Gthas heals unconditionally and cleanses status effects.
You get logged out. All contaminated loot disappears. The game does not care. Move, extract, or log off intentionally.
Kill Plague Doctor enemies immediately, enter checkpoints to freeze buildup, Surge only when Toxicity is genuinely threatening your run's efficiency.
Standard DZ drops 200% more Cannisters. PvE DZ drops better loot from landmarks and hunters. Your risk tolerance decides.
