Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph: Every Secret Reward, Explained

The Destiny 2 Monument of Triumph is Update 9.7.0: the final planned live-service content drop. Bungie stops developing new content after this. The game stays online. They just stop feeding it. A new monument structure in the Tower Courtyard has four plaques: Bravery, Devotion, Sacrifice, and Death. Access them after an initial purchase at the Tenant of Bravery. Praxic Blade: New Crystals

Three new Praxic Blade crystal colors were added. They are cosmetic. Your lightsaber still kills the same things either way. Here is where to get them:

The Vex Dark Matter Crystal visually transforms the weapon almost completely. Worth collecting if only to make other players ask what that is in a raid lobby.

Holofoil Weapons

Black Armory weapons now drop from Arena Ops in the Vanguard tab. All of them have a chance to drop as holofoil weapons Destiny 2 variants: a red-skin overlay that looks genuinely good. SRL can also drop holofoil weapons. The RGB-effect holofoil sword from SRL is the best-looking weapon in the update and probably in the game. No argument.

Bungie added 25 new exotic catalysts this update, filling out every exotic that previously had none. Every exotic now has one. Some are functional. Some are stat padding renamed as perks. Xur sells the majority of them going forward: including the Glaive catalyst from Witch Queen, Still Hunt, Microcosm, and Kavastto catalysts.

Xur also now sells tiered armor: Bashidto set, Swordmaster, and others from previous seasons. He also gets a vendor reward track with an emblem at the end. Check in at the weekly reset.

Loot Cave Returns

The original Destiny 2 loot cave is back in Skywatch on the Cosmodrome. Interact with it to spawn a wave of enemies. It is purely a nostalgia callback. It does not replace a lost cave farming method that ever mattered. But it exists, and now you have been told about it.

Planetary Distortions

New distortion materials drop while running events. Collect 50 to craft a Strange Signal: an exotic item that marks a map location for a bonus Distortion loophole drop plus ascendant alloys. Planetary distortions also cause public events in affected destinations to drop gear at a higher tier than normal. Patrol zones are relevant again. Somehow.

Pantheon 2.0

Pantheon returns as a permanent fixture. The first two activities: Calus Resplendent and Morgeth Surpassing: are live. A third arrives later with the full boss gauntlet. Two bosses rotate on a weekly featured schedule. Rewards include juicy emblems, updated raid loot with modern tier support and set bonuses, and Pantheon 2.0 redemption tokens for raid exotics and catalysts.

Opened Areas and New Secrets

Bungie unlocked previously sealed destinations. The Dark Forest in the EDZ is now open. So is Nobi Labs. Both were walled off for years. Explore them before you decide they contain nothing interesting. Bungie said there are easter eggs, lore discoveries, and small character moments scattered through the Tower and destinations. They are not wrong: players are finding things daily.

Leaks from Colony confirmed what the cancelled Shattered Cycle expansion would have included: the Guardian traveling to old Chicago, encountering a being called Three that required a vessel, and instead of binding to Three, binding to the Traveler: which would have created an entirely new subclass from the repaired Light. The Destiny 2 Shattered Cycle never happened. The Traveler is back in the Tower anyway. The distortion mechanic may have been an early prototype of that new energy system. Take that information and do whatever you need to do with it.
