Kowakujo Leaderboard Event Guide: BO7 Zombies Tips
Treyarch gave the XR-3 Ion a 750-round minigun mode in Season 4 Reloaded. Full guide: how to unlock it, build it, and what it actually does in...
The XR-3 Ion Vulcan Minigun is an underbarrel attachment that converts Black Ops 7's best burst sniper into a full-auto rotary machine gun. Per the official patch notes, it is a side-mounted foregrip providing focused hip-fire, reduced spread, and improved ADS movement speed. The price of admission: no optics, no magazine, no revolution barrel, no quick charge. You are now a person who cannot see past 30 meters and is totally fine with that.
The Black Ops 7 Season 4 Reloaded update dropped June 25, 2026. This was teased as a mid-season surprise: which, in Treyarch's vocabulary, means "we told you about it at launch and then made you wait a month." The attachment holds 750 rounds with zero cooldown. You can and will hold the trigger for two uninterrupted minutes. It is not mentally healthy but it is available.
Damage is nerfed compared to the standard Ion. Headshots deal roughly 1,000 per hit. In Endgame's Zone III and higher, that is acceptable. Against Oscar? You will survive the encounter. Against your own sanity? Less certain.
The XR-3 Ion Vulcan Minigun unlock is the Week 4 Weekly Challenge reward for Season 4 Reloaded. Complete any 6 of the 24 available challenges across Multiplayer, Endgame, Zombies, and Warzone. Pick the easiest six and move on with your life.
Once equipped with the Vulcan Minigun attachment, significant parts of your loadout are simply gone. The table below reflects what Treyarch decided you deserve.

Treyarch quietly buffed several Ion attachments in the same patch to improve ADS spread: specifically because the Ion minigun conversion fires such volume that spread management actually matters. The MFS 3x3 Compensator now adds 6% ADS spread improvement, the Exposed-73 Stock adds 13%, and the Convergence Box Laser adds 10%. Build around those three if you want the spray to resemble something intentional.
Recommended skeleton: LTI Triad Suppressor, 21" LTI Infinity Barrel, Convergence Box Laser, Exposed-73 Stock, XR-Omega Grip. No optic. You are now playing the game with peripheral vision only. Welcome.
Against standard enemies on Avalon: absurd. The ammo count means you never stop firing, which means enemies never stop dying, which means you feel powerful in a way the game's designers probably did not fully model before shipping. The Sharpshooter ability pairs naturally: criticals fire continuously when you are continuously firing.
Against the Oscar guild boss: workable. Not fast. You will land criticals if you position correctly at medium range and commit to the Endgame Sharpshooter build. The nerfed damage per shot is the only thing keeping this from being the single most disruptive weapon in Endgame history, and Treyarch knows it: they said so in the patch notes while buffing it anyway.
The Vulcan Minigun Endgame configuration also synergizes with the Prestige 3 Mortar ability and the new Season 4 Reloaded Guardian skill track. Fortified (damage reduction per armor plate) stacks well when you are standing still hosing things down, which is the only playstyle this weapon supports. Stack Fortified, equip Iron Grip for reduced hipfire spread under fire, stack plates, hold trigger.
On the Kowakujo Zombies map specifically: the new feudal Japan round-based addition this season: a Pack-a-Punched version of this weapon against the new Oni enemy type is genuinely degenerate. Wide corridors, high-density wave structure, 750 rounds, no reload. The map was designed as though it had not been told this weapon was coming.
The XR-3 Ion best loadout for raw damage output in Endgame remains the standard burst configuration. The Vulcan Minigun trades meaningful damage per shot for unlimited sustained fire, which is a trade you make when you are playing for fun rather than efficiency. Both things can coexist. Treyarch confirmed this when they nerfed the damage and then buffed the ADS spread attachments in the same patch.
Is it broken damage-wise? No. Is it broken in terms of how it feels to use? Completely. There is no cooldown, no reload, no optic, and no meaningful reason to stop shooting. The Black Ops 7 minigun weapon design philosophy here is: here is something absurd, it is deliberately less efficient than the alternative, and you are going to have it anyway.
Still top meta. More fun than the normal Ion. Less effective than the normal Ion. Worth unlocking. The six weekly challenges will take under an hour. Stop reading and go do them.

No. More fun, less damage per shot, same top-meta status. Use it when you want chaos, not numbers.
No cooldown whatsoever. 750 rounds, no heat, no pause. Hold trigger indefinitely. It is irresponsible.
Optics are blocked. The irony of a sniper rifle you cannot aim precisely is left as an exercise for the reader.
Any six of 24 available challenges. Mix modes freely. One Warzone challenge counts toward the total.
Pack-a-Punched on Kowakujo it is grotesquely effective against the Oni. The map designers were not warned.
