BO7 Season 4 Reloaded: Kowakujo, AN-94 & Nick Cage
The Kowakujo Leaderboard Event is live in BO7 Zombies until July 2. Compete in rotating 3-hour sessions for the Embers of War animated camo...

The Kowakujo Leaderboard Event runs from June 25 to July 2, 2026, exclusively on the new round-based Zombies map of the same name. A volcanic castle. Burning everything. You included, eventually.
Unlike the old format where you sat in one leaderboard for a week praying your score held, this one resets every three hours. Four sessions per day. You join a pool of 30 players, you earn points, you place. The leaderboard dies, a new one spawns. Repeat until the event ends or you get the camo, whichever comes first. Once you place first, Activision removes you from future leaderboards. Congratulations. You are too good for this now.
The BO7 Zombies leaderboard event is one of the first reworked formats based on player complaints. Players complained, Treyarch listened, and now the system at least tolerates multiple attempts. Progress on rewards carries over: place 10th, get 10th-place loot. Later place 3rd, get the difference. You never lose what you've already earned.
Every action on the map has a point value. Here is the only math you need to know:
|
Action |
Points |
Notes |
|
Zombie Elimination |
1 |
Baseline. Do not rely on this alone. |
|
Special Zombie Elimination |
25 |
Oni, Hellhounds, Scorch Zombies. Prioritize. |
|
T.E.D.D. Task Complete |
50 |
Blue rarity is enough. Legendary is better. |
|
Successful Assault Round Defense |
150 |
Defend the lion statues. Use Ghost Riflemen trap. |
Late rounds are where the math gets favorable. Special zombies in BO7 Zombies spawn in clusters of two or three at a time past round 20. Three specials back-to-back is 75 points before you've touched a T.E.D.D. task. The Assault Round defense at 150 points is the single highest-value action in the event. Missing one is a gift to whoever is below you.
Join early in a session. If you load in with two hours remaining and someone already has 3,000 points, walk away. Wait for the reset. The Kowakujo event schedule is visible in-game, showing exactly when the next session starts. There is no reason to play into a leaderboard you cannot win.
Everything stacks downward. First place gets all of it. Last place gets the blueprint for existing.
The Embers of War animated camo is the goal for most people. That means top five. First place gives you a GobbleGum on top of everything, which is a fine reward if your hobby is collecting candy that expires in fifteen minutes. Second through fifth is the practical target. The Magma Chamber blueprint is guaranteed to anyone who gets a single kill and finishes a match. You are literally paid to show up.
The optimal play for the Kowakujo high score method is simple: survive longer than everyone else and do not skip T.E.D.D. tasks. A player who reaches round 30-35 with all tasks and assault rounds completed will land around 3,000-3,500 points. That score held second place in at least one documented session. It took approximately one hour.
The leaderboard fills with 30 players. Skill-based matchmaking may or may not be a factor. Some players back out after one kill to get into a fresh lobby. Whether this helps is unconfirmed. What is confirmed: entering at the start of a session and playing for two solid hours makes you very difficult to beat before the session closes.
Kowakujo is a round-based Zombies map set in a feudal Japanese castle on an active volcano. The second-to-last Black Ops 7 Zombies map. The story involves freeing a Shadowsmith and something about Takeo's soul. The lava is not decoration. It slows you down and deals damage. You can push zombies into it. You will not remember to do this under pressure.
New enemies: the Oni, a heavy elite with electrical powers and a war club. Scorch Zombies, which are on fire and should be given space until they burn out. Hellhounds, which are always back. The Ghost Riflemen trap for Assault Rounds is accessed once power is on. It summons spectral soldiers from the castle walls to provide covering fire. It is the difference between a comfortable defense and a failed one.
The PPSh-41 is available as an ultra-rarity Mystery Box pull. Treat finding it as a bonus, not a plan. The Wonder Weapon was redacted from all official communications before launch, which has never happened in Black Ops history. Whatever it is, it will be in the Mystery Box. Do not tunnel on obtaining it during a leaderboard run unless you have rounds to spare.
Players who understand they have unlimited tries will quit sessions the moment they see a high score. This is correct behavior. The mistake is doing it too early, or not attempting the map long enough in the first place. A two-hour run with all objectives completed produces a score most casual players cannot challenge in the same window. Time in-match is the primary variable. Everything else follows from surviving.
The other common error: playing assault rounds without activating the trap. The trap is free. The defense without it is not. Activating traps in Kowakujo during an Assault Round is the single easiest 150-point action in the event. Missing it because you forgot the power was on is a personal failure.

No. Top five in any session earns the Embers of War animated camo. Second through fifth is fine.
You receive the difference. Any rewards from 3rd that 10th didn't include are granted automatically.
Only Kowakujo. Points are earned exclusively on this map. Other maps contribute nothing to leaderboard score.
Survive deep rounds, complete all T.E.D.D. tasks, and successfully defend every Assault Round. No shortcut exists.
Event ends July 2 at 10 AM ET. Rewards are distributed after the final leaderboard update closes.
