BO7 Zombies DLC 4 Volcano Map
MW4 DMZ is back and it's not free. Hajin Exclusion Zone drops October 23 with story missions, bounty systems, and AI that actually flanks…
Modern Warfare 4 DMZ is Call of Duty's second attempt at an extraction shooter, arriving October 23, 2026, as a core mode inside MW4. Not free-to-play. Not bolted onto Warzone. You paid for it; now go get shot in it.
The premise: deploy into Hajin, a post-campaign exclusion zone spanning Korean and Russian territory. Complete objectives. Grab loot. Get out alive. Simple enough that your teammates will still find ways to ruin it.
The original DMZ Beta in 2022 was described by Infinity Ward themselves as "a crazy experiment." That experiment killed it in under two years. This one allegedly has "full development time." Inspiring.
Hajin exclusion zone is the single map at launch, and it is larger than Al Mazrah. That sounds impressive until you remember Al Mazrah had zero meaningful content in half its grid squares. Hajin spans South Korea, North Korea, and Russia, each region with distinct AI factions, vehicles, and voice lines. Dynamic weather changes per deployment. At night, you need NVGs. In the rain, you cannot hear the enemy flanking you. Both of these will kill you.

There are three ways to waste your time in Hajin:
DMZ extraction shooter mechanics follow the genre blueprint: infiltrate, complete objectives, and exfil before the server kills you or another squad does. Twenty squads of three drop into each match. Most will not make it out. The game says so in the intro cinematic.
Stealth mechanics exist specifically so you can abort AI encounters before they escalate. Use them. Your teammates will not.
Each operator has a operator trait system MW4 skill tree. You unlock traits according to your preferred playstyle. You can run multiple operators. When one dies, they go MIA after the match. Recovery costs in-game cash scaled to that operator's level. High-level operators are expensive to retrieve. This is by design. Dying has consequences beyond momentary embarrassment.
Progression is entirely siloed to DMZ. Your Multiplayer rank means nothing here. Your Warzone stats mean nothing here. You start small. This will bother some people more than it should.
PvPvE extraction mode Call of Duty: both the AI and other players are trying to kill you, and neither will warn you first. Infinity Ward's design philosophy, verbatim: "You push, and the world pushes back." Escalating threat levels trigger elite reinforcements the longer you stay active. Kill a lot of AI, get noticed. Kill another squad, get a bounty.
The Bounty Hunter system puts a leaderboard on PvP kills. Top performers become visible to other squads who can pay for their location. There is a dog tag on your corpse worth cash if they exfil it. Become famous enough and the entire server knows where you are. The game rewards this. Proceed accordingly.
Previous COD AI stood in the open and shot at you. New MW4 AI enemy behavior involves cover usage, line-of-sight breaks, coordinated squad pressure, and flanking. Lone AI enemies may hold position, freeze, or retreat to regroup. Convoys patrol the map. Helicopters fly overhead and can be engaged or avoided. The system is described as "squad generation," meaning enemy groups coordinate rather than act independently. Whether this survives contact with the playerbase at launch remains to be seen.

No. It's included in MW4. Pay once, die repeatedly at full retail price.
Yes. Matchmaking prioritizes squad size, but solo is supported. Bring patience.
They go MIA. Recovery costs cash proportional to operator level. Expensive lesson.
No. DMZ progression is completely separate. Start from zero. Again.
