How to unlock the Death Machine major ability in BO7 Endgame Season 4, boss performance breakdown, optimal skill pairings, and an honest verdict...

The Death Machine is a portable minigun that drops into your major ability slot in Black Ops 7 Endgame. High damage per shot, large magazine, and a cooldown long enough to make you question your life choices. It was added at the launch of Season 4 on June 4, 2026, as part of the Week 2 challenge rewards — alongside the M10 Breacher Argus Lever conversion kit, because Activision believes in bundles.
You can use it as many times as the cooldown allows. The word "unlimited" in the promotional framing is technically accurate in the same way an unlimited data plan with throttling is unlimited. The BO7 Endgame major ability slot competes with everything else in that tier — Grappling Hook, Blood Burner, Flicker, Black Hat — none of which require you to stand still feeding bullets into a boss that doesn't care.
The Death Machine unlock Season 4 requires completing any 6 of 24 total Week 2 challenges across Multiplayer, Zombies, Endgame, and Warzone. You do not have to touch Endgame at all. If you have a pulse in Warzone and Zombies, you are already halfway there.
Fastest path: Combine Warzone and Zombies challenges. Endgame challenges are slower, zone-gated, and populated by people who arrived at the guild strike before you did every single time.
The Death Machine was tested across Endgame's available Endgame boss fights Season 4 content. Here is what happened, without the cope.

Notes |
|
Dr. Faulner |
Solid |
Cleaned up fast. Spores die, boss follows. Functional. |
|
Caltheris |
Mediocre |
Armor phases punish limited ammo. Ion did more. |
|
Zersa |
Poor |
Absurd health pool. The gun ran dry. Nothing impressive. |
|
Wraith Wing |
Decent |
Nerfed boss, easy to hit thrusters. Flattering test case. |

Uber Klaus |
Adequate |
Broke armor phase quickly but couldn't finish solo. Ion mopped up. |

Someone else was already running it. Welcome to Avalon. |
The critical damage ceiling of 3,000 is the problem. Running Bloodrunner, Rampage, and a close-range skill would push those numbers, but even then you are not dethroning the Ion or a well-built primary. The Death Machine is not a best major ability BO7 contender for boss content at current tuning.
Against standard enemies — Raiders, Mercs, zombie trash — the minigun is satisfying in the way that things with high fire rates and large magazines tend to be satisfying. It does the job. If your playstyle involves wading into crowds rather than sniping objectives, this fits. The Endgame mob clearing ability use case is legitimate.
The Wraith Wing test exposed one actual strength: hitting weak points at range is easier with the Death Machine than with some primaries. It fires straight, it fires fast, and the magazine does not run out mid-burst on smaller targets. For flying or fast-moving bosses with exposed critical spots, it punches above expectations.
Season 4 launched June 4, 2026, with Operation Wall Breaker, Operator Prestige, the new Possessed Convoy activity, and the Guardian Skill Track arriving mid-season. The Death Machine was the headline Endgame addition at launch. Mid-season brought the Psych Grenade Minor Ability and the Guardian tree, which focuses on damage resistance and supply management — arguably more useful for the players who intend to stay alive long enough to see a boss spawn.
The Operator Prestige system BO7 resets your Combat Rating and strips your build in exchange for permanent slot expansions: an extra Exotic skill slot at Prestige 1, an extra Nightmare slot at Prestige 2, and a fourth Skill Track at Prestige 3. Combining Prestige perks with the Death Machine in a damage-focused build is the intended power fantasy. In practice, the Ion still exists.

Complete the Week 2 challenges anyway — you also get the M10 Breacher Argus Lever conversion kit, which improves fire rate and spread on a weapon people actually use. The Death Machine comes along for free. Equip it, use it on mobs, feel powerful briefly, then watch the cooldown timer and reconsider your slot allocation.
Mob clearing: Run it if you enjoy it. Boss fights: Bring your Ion. The Death Machine is the ability version of a weapon that looks great in the lobby and underperforms on the field — functional, occasionally fun, not the meta.

No. Low critical damage, limited ammo, and long cooldown make it a liability on anything with serious health pools.
Yes. Unlimited uses, gated by cooldown. The cooldown is long enough to feel like a punishment.
Berserker track, Eagle Eye, Bloodrunner, Rampage. Still requires a proper primary weapon for bossing.
Prestige unlocks extra skill slots that let you stack more damage perks around it. The ability itself stays unchanged.
