Apex Legends Power Trip Event
Season 29, Overclocked. Diamond and above lost their premade privileges. Here's what to do about it, minus the encouragement you don't need.
Respawn decided that high-rank Apex Legends solo ranked should stop being a euphemism and start being literal. From June 9 to June 23, Diamond, Master, and Apex Predator lobbies were locked to solo queue only, and Respawn has already confirmed the policy is coming back. No duos, no three-stacks, no hiding behind a coordinated squad while you third-party from a rock. Just you, your aim, and three strangers who may or may not know what a ping is.
The stated goal of forced solo queue Diamond matchmaking is fairness: reduce the gap between solo grinders and organized stacks who've been farming lobbies since Season 2. Whether it actually closes that gap or just redistributes the misery evenly is something you'll get to experience firsthand. Either way, your teammates are now exactly as random as your enemies, which is either justice or chaos depending on your win rate.
This isn't about which legend looks best in a trailer. It's about which kit still functions when your teammate drops hot into three squads and dies before you've finished looting the first bin. Independence beats charisma every time in a solo queue meta legends environment.

Tier |
Legend |
Why |
|
S |
Octane |
Self-sufficient healing, self-sufficient escape, self-sufficient everything. He doesn't need you and he definitely doesn't need your teammates. |
|
S |
Valkyrie |
Rotates without asking permission. Escapes bad fights your team started without you. The jetpack doesn't care about your comms. |
|
A |
Conduit |
Shield regen that works whether or not anyone acknowledges it exists. Reliable is the highest compliment solo queue can offer. |
|
A |
Bangalore |
Smokes solve problems your teammates create. Revives, sightlines, escapes — all covered without a single ping being read. |
|
B |
Loba |
Bracelet mobility and banner control mean she can bail herself out. Solid, unglamorous, functional. The office chair of legends. |
|
C |
Bloodhound |
Still gives information nobody else provides, but power creep means the scan alone won't carry a match anymore. |
|
D |
Crypto |
Genuinely strong drone value, completely wasted the moment your team ignores the intel he worked to gather. |
|
D |
Newcastle |
His entire kit assumes teammates who respond to being helped. In solo queue, that assumption dies in the first fight. |
Axle, the new Assault legend, is currently topping pick rates league-wide and is expected to eat a nerf at the mid-season patch. Enjoy her while Respawn hasn't noticed yet.
Tridents got removed from Storm Point and Olympus, so legend mobility is no longer optional — it's the only rotation tool left. This is the backbone of the current Apex Legends tier list Season 29, and it's why static, vehicle-dependent playstyles are quietly being buried. If your legend's plan was "drive there," you no longer have a plan.

The ranked points system Apex rewards placement and kills together, not kills alone. Counting eliminations after a match and feeling proud is the wrong metric. A 3v3 you don't win costs you placement RP and gives you nothing. Discipline beats highlight reels.
|
Behavior |
RP Outcome |
|
Contesting a fight you already lost |
Negative. Every time. |
|
Disengaging when down a player |
Preserves placement. Boring. Correct. |
|
Third-partying after two squads commit |
Free value. This is the entire point of the ring. |
|
Chasing a 20-bomb from top 5 |
Kill cap stops rewarding you. You're just gambling now. |
You can't fix your teammates. You can control your exposure to their decisions, which is functionally the same as damage control. Applying disciplined climbing to Master solo habits matters more than any individual legend pick.
If you want the abbreviated version of every solo queue ranked guide currently circulating: pick a self-sufficient legend, prioritize placement over kills, and stop expecting strangers to play like they know what a rotation is. That's the whole strategy. Everything else is commentary.
A note on Bloodhound: not the dominant pick they were two seasons ago, but the information advantage is still hard to fully replace in best solo queue legends conversations. Downgraded, not dead.

It bans premade squads at high ranks, forcing strangers together. No duo queue, no three-stack, just randoms and consequences.
Octane, Bangalore, Valkyrie, and Conduit lead the pack. Self-sufficient kits win. Anything needing coordinated comms is dead weight.
No. It targets Diamond, Master, and Apex Predator only. Lower ranks keep premades, because chaos there is apparently acceptable.
Officially a test, June 9 to 23. Respawn hints it returns. Nothing in live-service gaming is ever truly temporary.
Play placement over kills, disengage from lost fights, and stop expecting randoms to read your mind. Control your own decisions.
