What Is Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker?

Thunderfury is a level 60 legendary one-handed sword associated with Thunderaan, Prince of Air and son of Al’Akir the Windlord. According to its story, Ragnaros and his lieutenants defeated Thunderaan and divided his remaining power between two halves of the Bindings of the Windseeker.

The sword has a chance-on-hit lightning effect that deals 300 Nature damage and jumps between nearby enemies. It can affect up to five targets, reduce their Nature resistance, and slow the primary target’s attack speed by 20% for 12 seconds.

These effects helped make Thunderfury especially famous among tanking characters. Its fast attack speed, multi-target proc, defensive attack-speed reduction, and unmistakable visual appearance continue to make it a highly desirable legendary weapon during the Burning Crusade Classic Anniversary era.

How to Obtain Thunderfury in TBC Classic Anniversary

The Thunderfury questline begins after a character obtains either half of the Bindings of the Windseeker. The two pieces are found in Molten Core:

1. Baron Geddon drops the left half of the Bindings of the Windseeker;

2. Garr drops the right half of the Bindings of the Windseeker;

3. Both bindings have an estimated drop chance of approximately 3–4%;

4. Ragnaros provides the Essence of the Firelord for the active quest;

5. Ten Elementium Bars must be prepared;

6. Highlord Demitrian in Silithus manages the main quest stages.

After obtaining the first binding, the player travels to Highlord Demitrian and receives the Vessel of Rebirth. Examining it opens the next part of the chain, Thunderaan the Windseeker.

To complete this stage, the player must deliver both bindings, the Essence of the Firelord, and 10 Elementium Bars. Prince Thunderaan is then summoned in Silithus and must be defeated by a prepared raid group.

Thunderaan drops the Dormant Wind Kissed Blade. Returning this quest item to Highlord Demitrian completes Rise, Thunderfury! and awards Thunderfury, Blessed Blade of the Windseeker.
