Preservation Evoker S2: Dream Breath, Tier Set & Flameshaper
The Venomous Abyss leaked its heroic guts on PTR. Seven testable bosses, mechanics, tier loot, class tips, sass fully included, always free now.
Welcome to the Venomous Abyss raid guide nobody asked Blizzard to test in public. Buried in the Temple of Ula'tek, on the newly discovered Coiled Isle east of Zul'Aman, this eight-boss raid is the entire progression race for the season, because Blizzard decided one raid is plenty of content for you this year. Seven bosses have public encounter journal entries on PTR right now, ability IDs and all. The eighth, Ula'tek herself, stays locked, because Blizzard's idea of suspense is withholding content from the people stress-testing their game for free. Every ability tag below (role, criticality, difficulty) is copied from the actual journal UI, not vibes.
The Nek'zali the Soulcoiler heroic guide starts, appropriately, with a corpse pile. Nek'zali haunts the Soulcoil Well, and her entire personality is "feed my well and die." Everything below is pulled from her live encounter journal.

All |
Important |
Every soul the well eats grants Nek'zali 5 energy and blasts the raid for 76,972 + 19,243/1.5s (12s, stacks). Heroic adds Ritual Burn, a stacking +10% damage-taken debuff. This is the energy meter you're racing. |
|
|
All |
Deadly |
Standing in it ticks 15/sec Shadow. Touch the surface or die inside and you become Soulcoiled: instant death. |
|
|
Soulcoil Ignition |
Healer |
Important |
Triggers Soulcoil Rite every 1s for 4s and spawns Anguished Echoes, random-location knockback bombs. A burst healing check. |
|
Essence Rend |
All |
Magic |
Pulls several players in for 5s, then knocks them away for 30 dmg. Leaves a ghostly essence (5/1.5s for 15s); removing it spawns a Latent Cultist. |
|
Latent Cultist |
DPS |
— |
Adds that pulse 40 dmg/sec and 40% slow to anyone standing near the well. Kill or avoid. |
|
Restless Amani → Raised Amani |
DPS |
— |
Spirits burst from the well, run for outer sarcophagi, and animate. This is the add wave. |
|
Gravebound Advance |
DPS |
Magic |
Shields Raised Amani for 25% max HP, grants death immunity and a hard fixate on the well while it holds. Burn it down, don't just CC it. |
|
Corpse Blight |
DPS |
— |
Killing an Amani too close to the well erupts for 61,577 (15yd) plus 6/sec for 6s. Don't stack kills on the well's lip. |
|
Possession Barrage |
Tank |
Heroic+ |
Echoes launch toward the tank's target, hitting the raid for 461,829 (reduced by travel distance). Heroic: each echo that connects also stacks Hollowed. |
|
Sever |
Tank |
— |
Melee autoattack applies Hollowed: 30,789/3s and -5% healing/absorbs received per stack, 15s duration. Swap tanks before it snowballs. |
|
Residual Toll |

Background pressure: random players tick 3/sec, becoming Hollowed after 16 seconds if ignored. |

Invoke |
All |
— |
Re-triggers Soulcoil Rite and spawns Latent Cultists doing a repositioning dance (Entwined Step). Mythic version also interrupts casts and silences whoever dared interrupt it. |
Class-wise, this fight rewards anything with spread cleave or hard CC: boomkins, elemental shamans, affliction locks, and any death knight who's ever dreamed of Death Grip-ing an entire graveyard into one pile.
The Entombed Sentinels heroic strategy is one rule Blizzard was very proud of: keep Breath of Ula'tek and Blood of Ula'tek apart. Get them within 25 yards and both gain Ula'tek's Dominance, a 99% damage reduction that turns your parse into a cruel joke.

The The Lost Explorers heroic guide covers a genuine council: possessed tortollans Scrollsage Iku, First Mate Nama, and Trader Gebbo, all puppeted by the troll Mor'zahi. Break his control and he re-asserts it violently. Let him sit free too long and he ascends.

Smashing Shovel |
Trader Gebbo |
Tank |
Deadly |
When an ally dies, Gebbo switches to melee-with-a-shovel mode: extra physical damage and knockback on every swing. |
The achievement for this fight is literally called "Accidental Inclusion," for finishing with Hoji still alive, which tells you everything about how seriously Blizzard takes its own council fight.

Boss five, and the Sszorak heroic strategy is refreshingly single-target: a wind-born horror on the Altar of the Six Winds whose entire job is shoving you off a platform while hitting like a truck.

The jumping-ring mechanic is tracked by its own achievement ("Jumping Through Hoops"), because someone at Blizzard really wanted you leaping through hoops on purpose.
Vexhul and Ithraz present the The Twin Fangs heroic guide as the raid's second cleave-a-duo slot. Both build Eternal Venom on the raid; hit 7 stacks and you're instantly dead.

The The Coiled Altar heroic guide covers the raid's grand finale before the finale: Zul'jan, wielding the Fang of Ula'tek, with Hex Lord Malacrass riding along for phase two. Fair warning: Zul'jan's own kit is fully indexed in the PTR encounter journal right now. Malacrass's phase-two/three kit isn't populated in the public journal yet, so his section below stays honest about what's confirmed by name versus fully documented.

His physical hits cause hemorrhaging, stripping Ritual Venom stacks and leaving 11/sec blood pools on the ground. Mythic-only Ritual Venom itself bursts for 40 on expiry if left alone. |

Tank |

Two hacks at the current tank, 50 physical each. Standard threat/mitigation, nothing exotic. |
Straight talk: Wowhead's PTR encounter journal for Hex Lord Malacrass isn't populated yet as of this writing: his NPC page exists but the ability list is empty. What's below is limited to mechanics confirmed by name through PTR achievement text and testing footage. No fabricated numbers, no invented spell IDs.
This entry exists only because leaving it out entirely felt like lying to you. Ula'tek is the ancient serpent goddess this entire WoW Midnight Season 2 raid tier is building toward. She is not available for Heroic or Mythic PTR testing, per Blizzard's long and cherished tradition of hiding the one fight everyone actually wants to see. You'll learn her the same way everyone else does: live, blind, and immediately dead.
Five of the seven tested bosses hand out a class tier-set token for a fixed armor slot. Miss one boss, and the Midnight Catalyst becomes your only way back into that slot: assuming you enjoy grinding delves as a backup plan.

Eight bosses total; this guide covers the seven tested on Heroic PTR, since Ula'tek stays locked until the raid launches.
Nek'zali the Soulcoiler opens the raid, guarding the Soulcoil Well with endless adds and an energy-based wipe mechanic.
Entombed Sentinels, the Twin Fangs, and the Coiled Altar all field two or more targets, demanding careful positioning and priority.
No. Blizzard locks the final boss during testing, so Ula'tek's mechanics stay journal-only speculation until the raid actually launches.
Mythic testing typically follows Heroic by about two weeks, matching Blizzard's usual PTR cadence for Midnight Season 2's raid tier.
