Gear Alts Fast in TBC Classic Anniversary Phase 2

The Season 1 Gladiator gear discount TBC Anniversary is the most efficient alt-catch-up mechanism this game has ever offered with a straight face. The five-piece Gladiator sets (class-specific names vary; Pursuit is the Hunter variant) run less than 2,500 arena points for the bulk of the set during the off-season discount. That is roughly two weeks of YOLO 5v5 queues from someone who does not actually play arena. You may have that banked from three sessions you did in February and then abandoned when the first competent team made you cry.

Yes, the gear has Resilience instead of one of the DPS stats you want. No, it does not matter. You are walking into Gruul's Lair, not parsing for a Warcraft logs screenshot. The raw stamina, spell power, attack power, or healing throughput on these pieces outclasses anything you will farm from Heroic dungeons in a statistically reasonable amount of time. Gem for hit. Move on.

Key fact: PvP gear does not have Hit Rating. Budget for 2–3 Burning Crusade hit rating gems per character to reach your class's hit cap before raiding. This is not optional. Bosses will dodge you with visible contempt.

What to Buy First

  • Chest and legs first: largest stat contributions, easiest to feel the difference.
  • Helm and shoulders second: same reasoning, also covers tier-set slots.
  • Hands last: often the weakest piece relative to heroic alternatives, but still worth it.
  • Off-pieces (belt, boots, bracers, ring, neck) via Honor: covered below.

Honor Gear Off-Pieces: Now Without the Insulting Mark Requirements

This is the part where the game silently removes a cost component after you spent a weekend farming it. The Season 1 honor off-pieces: boots, belt, bracers, rings, neck, and cloak: previously required Eye of the Storm Marks of Honor and equivalent marks from other battlegrounds. As of the start of the off-season, those mark requirements are gone. Honor only. This happens every time a season ends in TBC Classic, because the new season introduces a new set of off-pieces that will carry the mark requirement instead. Veteran players remember this. Everyone else apparently needs to lose twenty Eye of the Storm games first.

The new TBC Season 2 off-pieces (arriving with Season 2) will restore the mark requirement at their original prices. So the window to grab the current pieces cheaply and without marks is exactly now, during this two-week gap, and nowhere else in the timeline. Enjoy it knowing that this information was, technically, knowable beforehand, and yet here we are.

Three wins in Eye of the Storm can now buy you three pieces of gear. In under an hour. With the current TBC Classic honor farming guide approach of simply queuing the daily Call to Arms battleground, you can realistically complete a full off-piece set in half a day. If that sounds tedious, compare it to spamming Heroic Slave Pens for a Quagmirran's Eye that has an 11% drop rate and competes with every other caster in your group.

Where You Are Going With This Gear

Phase 2 delivers two 25-player Tier 5 raids. Both require attunement in the Anniversary Edition (account-wide, thankfully, so you only suffer once per Battle.net account). Gear your alts now so they can walk in on day one instead of standing in Karazhan for three more weeks having very sincere feelings about it.

Serpentshrine Cavern (SSC)

Six bosses. Located inside Coilfang Reservoir in Zangarmarsh. Drops Tier 5 tokens for gloves, legs, and helms. The final boss, Lady Vashj, drops a quest item required for Phase 3 attunement. Hydross requires dedicated tank resistance sets. You were warned.

Tempest Keep: The Eye

Four bosses. Located in Netherstorm. Drops Tier 5 tokens for shoulders and chest. Kael'thas Sunstrider is a five-phase fight that has historically ended friendships, disbanded guilds, and caused people to quietly reconsider their life choices. Void Reaver is easy. Start there. Ashes of Al'ar has a sub-2% drop rate. You will not get it.

The Phase 1 raids: Karazhan, Gruul's Lair, and Magtheridon's Lair: are now on farm for most guilds and represent the minimum acceptable preparation before touching Phase 2 content. Your pre-raid bis TBC Classic Phase 2 checklist should include clearing all three at least once before walking into SSC, ideally repeatedly.

The Actual Strategy, Step by Step

For the person who needs it spelled out, because apparently "spend your points before they disappear" was insufficiently specific:

  1. Log every alt at level 70. Check your arena points balance via the currency tab. Even 400 points buys you something. Do not skip this step because you think you have nothing.
  2. Visit the PvP vendor. Champion's Hall (Alliance) or Hall of Legends (Horde). Buy the largest pieces first: chest, legs, then helm, shoulders, hands. The Gladiator's sets are organized by class; find yours and press buy. This is the extent of the mechanical complexity.
  3. Queue for battlegrounds.Eye of the Storm with the daily quest active awards extra honor and a mark bonus. Three wins ≈ one off-piece. The TBC Classic Anniversary honor farming math is genuinely favorable right now. Winning helps. You can also lose for a reduced honor amount and still progress.
  4. Purchase off-pieces in order of stat priority. Cloak first (cheapest), then rings and neck, then bracers, then boots, then belt last (most expensive slot). Adapt to your class's specific stat needs.
  5. Gem for Hit Rating. Reach your class's hit cap via gems. Socket bonus optimization is secondary to not whiffing on raid bosses. Purple or red hit gems in every non-meta socket until you hit cap. Then and only then start caring about the other stats.
  6. Complete attunements. Account-wide in Anniversary means one character handles both the SSC and The Eye chains for the whole account. If your main has not done this, they are the problem, not the alts.
  7. Do this before May 19. The calendar is not a suggestion.

Gear Alts Fast in TBC Classic Anniversary Phase 2 FAQ

Will Gladiator gear actually let me raid in Phase 2?

Yes. Stats are raid-viable; you are missing Resilience's mirror stat and Hit, which gems fix.

What happens to my arena points if I miss the Season 2 deadline?

They convert to Honor at 1:10. The Gladiator gear becomes full-price again with mark requirements

Do I need marks to buy the Season 1 off-pieces right now?

No. Mark requirements are removed for the off-season. Honor only, until Season 2 replaces them.

Are Phase 2 raid attunements shared between all characters on my account?

Yes. TBC Anniversary attunements are account-wide. Complete them once, every alt enters freely.

Is Heroic dungeon farming still worth doing before Phase 2?

For specific trinkets and weapons unavailable via PvP vendors, yes. For everything else, honor is faster.
