Gothic 1 Remake Weapon Tier List

The Colony doesn't care about your feelings. Neither does this guide. Gothic 1 Remake best weapons ranked without padding, without "it depends on your playstyle," and without the three paragraphs about lore nobody asked for.

The best weapon is the highest-damage one you can actually equip. Everything below is just a map to get there faster.

S: God Tier

Tier

Weapon

DMG

Note

S

Charged Uriziel

2H Sword

120 magic + 30 fire

30 STR

30 STR for 150 effective damage. Obscene.

S

Crossbow of War

Crossbow

120

70 DEX

Highest raw damage in the game. Reloads slow. Doesn't matter.

Charged Uriziel is the reason Xardas exists. Uriziel Gothic 1 Remake starts as an unidentified blade in the Sleeper's Temple: take it to Xardas, watch him make it terrifying. Magic damage bypasses physical resistance. Combined with its absurdly low 30 STR requirement, nothing else is close.

A: Strong. Use These.

Innos' Rage

2H Sword

95 STR

Legendary. Massive invest. Massive payoff.

A

Claw of Beliar

2H Sword

110

95 STR

Innos' evil twin. Same damage, same pain to unlock.

A

Lee's Axe

2H Axe

105

90 STR

Legendary. AoE cleave. General Lee approves.

A

Bow of Death

Bow

88

50 DEX

Best bow. Endgame archer goal.

A

Scar's Sword

1H Sword

85

70 STR

Best one-hander. Kill Scar, loot it, don't feel bad.

One-handed builds get Scar's Sword and stop asking questions. Kill Scar early: yes, he's in the Castle, yes, he's dangerous, yes it's worth it. Isolate him at night. The Scar's Sword Gothic Remake payoff lasts multiple chapters.

Gorn's Revenge

Legendary. Gets the job done.

B

Torlof's Axe

2H Axe

99

84 STR

Legendary. One point shy of Gorn's. Annoying.

B

Wrath Steel

2H Sword

88

66 STR

Strong pre-legendary filler. Underrated.

B

King's Blade

1H Sword

74

59 STR

Drops from Gor Na Drak. Carries mid-game.

B

Mercenary's Blade

1H Sword

73

58 STR

Old Mine Templar drop. Almost King's Blade. Fine.

B

Heavy Crossbow

Crossbow

~80

50 DEX

Pre-Crossbow of War ranged stop-gap. Worth it.

B

Battle Axe 2H

2H Axe

94

72 STR

Vendor-available. Respectable filler.

Filler before King's Blade. Acceptable.

C

Longbow

From Drax. Kills things. That's the bar.

C

Light Crossbow

Crossbow

60

Early crossbow access. 60 damage at 30 DEX is decent.

C

Longsword / Broadsword

1H Sword

45–55

35–45 STR

The "waiting for better options" swords.

C

Arto's Sword

1H Sword

65

50 STR

Decent stepping stone. Don't marry it.

C

Hunting Bow

Bow

32

22 DEX

Hunter Ratford's bow. Fine for early chapters.

D: Vendor Trash You'll Actually Use

These are the weapons you equip because you have no choice, not because you want to. The Gothic 1 Remake early game weapons bracket: Rusty Sword (10 DMG / 5 STR), Old Sword (12 DMG / 8 STR), Crude Sword (17 DMG / 14 STR), Judgment Sword (30 DMG / 20 STR), Battlesword (33 DMG / 23 STR): exists to get you to Chapter 2 without embarrassing yourself. Shortbow (20 DMG / 10 DEX) is the opening ranged option because that's all there is.

Every weapon you use before Scar's Sword is a stepping stone. Treat it accordingly.

Weapon Categories: How They Work

One-Handed Swords & Axes

Faster swings, less damage per hit, better in tight spaces. Swords stab (range), axes cleave (AoE). The one-handed weapons Gothic 1 Remake route peaks at Scar's Sword: 85 damage for 70 STR. Get there, stop second-guessing.

Two-Handed Weapons

Slower. Harder. Correct. Two-handed sword Gothic 1 Remake builds live or die by their stat investment: Innos' Rage demands 95 STR, so either commit or don't touch this category. King's Blade (74 DMG / 59 STR) from Gor Na Drak is the bridge between "surviving" and "winning."

Bows

Dexterity-gated. Scale smoothly from Shortbow to Bow of Death. The best bow Gothic Remake endgame is Bow of Death at 88 DMG / 50 DEX. Bows let you pull enemies, open fights from range, and avoid the embarrassing melee death spiral. Rider's Bow from Shrike is a solid early bonus if you know where to look.

Crossbows

Higher burst than bows, slower reload, higher DEX floor. Light Crossbow hits 60 DMG at 30 DEX: that's not a starting weapon, that's a statement. Crossbow of War ends the conversation at 120 DMG / 70 DEX. Crossbow Gothic 1 Remake builds pair well with Strength melee as a secondary weapon.

Stat Requirements: The Actual Tier List

The real Gothic 1 Remake weapon requirements system is simple: you either meet the threshold or the weapon is decorative. Strength unlocks every melee weapon. Dexterity unlocks every bow and crossbow. Splitting LP between both early is how people end up mid-game with two mediocre options instead of one good one.

Weapon proficiency matters. An untrained character swinging Innos' Rage is a comedy act. Train Scatty for one-handed, use the correct trainer for two-handed: the weapon skill training Gothic Remake investment is non-negotiable. The damage number on the weapon tooltip assumes you're trained. You're probably not.

The five rarity tiers: Crude, Common, Uncommon, Rare, Legendary: tell you roughly what chapter the weapon belongs in. Legendaries (Innos' Rage, Lee's Axe, Gorn's Revenge, Torlof's Axe) are endgame. Don't plan your build around them at Chapter 1.

Build Paths: Shortest Route to Not Dying

Strength / Melee

  • Chapter 1: Judgment Sword → Battlesword → whatever drops from camp guards
  • Chapter 2: Kill Scar. Get his sword. This is not optional.
  • Late: Wrath Steel or Battle Axe 2H while STR climbs toward Legendary thresholds
  • Endgame: Charged Uriziel. You're done.

Dexterity / Ranged

  • Early: Shortbow (10 DEX), then Hunting Bow (22 DEX), then Longbow from Drax (30 DEX)
  • Mid: Light Crossbow (30 DEX) as burst supplement, Army Bow (32 DEX) for sustained
  • Late: Bow of Death (50 DEX) for bows, Crossbow of War (70 DEX) for crossbows

The Gothic 1 Remake strength build is the most forgiving path. One-handed melee with Firebolt rune backup handles almost every situation, even when your route through a camp goes wrong.
