Diablo 3 Season 38 Best Builds

Season 38, "Ethereal Memory," launched March 27, 2026. It recycles the theme from Seasons 24 and 27: a love letter to Diablo II: Resurrected's release. The headline mechanic: Ethereal weapons, a separate item tier that hands you one random Legendary Weapon Power and one random Class Passive on top of already-absurd base stats. Your character is effectively running a five-slot Kanai's Cube. Congratulations, you are temporarily overpowered.

The Diablo 3 Season 38 tier list is unusually flat because of this: every class can clear Greater Rift 150 with the right Ethereal roll. If you've been whining that your class is weak, you've run out of excuses. Season ends, Ethereals vanish, characters migrate to non-seasonal: stripped of their toys.

Ethereal powers do not stack with the same power in Kanai's Cube. Don't try. Also: rerolling Primal Ancient Ethereals via the Cube re-randomizes the Legendary power. You have been warned.

Ethereal Weapon Mechanics: The Short Version

Each class has exactly three Ethereal options. You equip one. It rolls fixed high-damage affixes, one random class weapon Legendary Power from the entire pool, and one random class Passive. The Diablo 3 Ethereal weapons guide principle: get the right legendary power for your build or keep farming. Wrong power means massive damage loss. Legacy (old) versions of powers are especially punishing.

  • Drop-only, account bound. No trading. Farm it yourself like an adult.
  • Season-only. They disappear when the season ends. That "rare, powerful, and fleeting" marketing copy is accurate for once.
  • Smart loot applies. They drop overwhelmingly for the class you're playing.
  • Primal Ancient Ethereals become available after clearing GR70. You can craft them via Kanai's Cube: with random power rerolls. Enjoy the gambling.
  • Transmogrify unlock: collect all 21 Ethereals for the Ethereal Recollection Feat of Strength. Cosmetics persist forever. The weapons do not.

The Haedrig's Gift starter sets and Ethereals are the twin engines of early season progression. Get your free set first, then chase the Ethereal that complements it. Doing it backwards is how people waste their first week.

Haedrig's Gift: Starter Sets by Class

Complete Chapters 2–4 of the Season Journey and collect three Haedrig's Gifts for a full 6-piece class set. These are your starting point. For some classes, they're also the finish line: the starter set IS the best push build. Lucky them.

Class

Slow Time domes buff damage; Energy Twisters proc via channeled skills

IS the push build. Don't leave it.

Barbarian

Furious Charge stacks (5 minimum), Ancient Spear Boulder Toss for burst

IS the push build. Rage management required.

Monk

Inna's Mantra

Pet-based with Mystic Allies; Ring of Royal Grandeur + Shenlongs; time Cyclone Strike with elemental buff

Crusader

Armor of Akkhan

Starter only: switch to Rathma or LoD Death Nova for push

GR150 Push Tier List: Solo

Below is the ranked push list based on leaderboard data. S-tier clears GR150. Each tier down means roughly five fewer GR levels. All rankings assume optimized gear and adequate Paragon. "My class is undertuned" is a valid concern only below the C-tier line.

Tier

Build

GR Cap

Note

S

Firebird Meteor Wizard (LoD Bazooka)

GR150 / 1:51

Fastest clear. Archon buffs Meteor. Uncomfortable to play. Most of the leaderboard hates it.

S

Tal Rasha Meteor Wizard

GR150 / 2:12

Hold one button. Watch meteors. Brain off. 21 seconds slower than Firebird. Worth it.

S

Rathma Army of the Dead Necromancer

GR150 / 2:42

Cooldown-to-cooldown burst. Pull enemies, Army activates, everything dies, repeat.

S

LoD Death Nova Necromancer

GR150

No set restrictions. Raw Nova damage. Gear dependency is high.

S

Marauder Cluster Arrow / Multishot DH

GR150 / 2:24

Starter set IS the top build. Turrets slow. You shoot. Simple enough for anyone.

A

PoJ Wave of Light Monk

GR145 / 2:46

Stack mobs, drop Wave of Light, bask in destruction. Excellent mobility.

A

LoD Blessed Shield Crusader

GR145 / 2:53

Captain America simulator. Throw shield endlessly. Zero resource problems.

A

Raekor Boulder Toss Barbarian

GR145

Charge for stacks, throw boulder, watch the number. Straightforward and destructive.

B

Mundunugu Spirit Barrage Witch Doctor

GR140 / 3:04

Channel. Build barrage. Release. Explosion. Oddly satisfying despite ranking.

B

IK HotA Barbarian

GR140

Immortal King with permanent Ancients. High damage, reliable. Not flashy.

C

Inna Mystic Ally Monk

GR136

The starter set. Pets do the work. You mostly stand there and feel complicit.

C

Helltooth Gargantuan Witch Doctor

GR135

The Gargantuan does the killing. You are a glorified Gargantuan shepherd.

Barbarian holds the overall last place solo: 150 in 4 minutes flat. It's clearing 150, so calling it "weak" is embarrassing for everyone involved. Ethereals lift even the slowest floors.

Class Rankings: Best Diablo 3 Build Per Class

The community-agreed best solo push build for each class this season, ranked by GR150 clear times:

  1. Wizard: Firebird Meteor (LoD Bazooka) Archon transformation buffs Meteor damage to obscene levels. Fastest solo GR150 clear on record. The Legacy of Dreams gem removes set requirements entirely: wear whatever fits. Awkward rotation, elite result.
     Best time: 1 min 51 sec: GR150
  2. Demon Hunter: Marauder Cluster Arrow The Greater Rift 150 clear speed benchmark for Demon Hunter sits at 2:24. Turrets slow enemies and buff your damage. You attack from range with Cluster Arrow. No exotic rotation. Starter set remains competitive at endgame: a rare mercy from Blizzard.
     Best time: 2 min 24 sec: GR150
  3. Necromancer: Rathma Army of the Dead Cooldown windows define this entire playstyle. Spam pet-reducing skills, Army resets, Army fires, everything in the screen dies. LoD Death Nova is a valid alternative for players who find cooldown management tedious.
     Best time: 2 min 42 sec: GR150
  4. Monk: PoJ Wave of Light Pull mobs with Cyclone Strike, drop Wave of Light. The staggered crowd-clearing loop is smooth and fast. Solid defense, good mobility. The Monk Wave of Light build is genuinely fun: a quality the upper tier sacrifices freely.
     Best time: 2 min 46 sec: GR150
  5. Crusader: LoD Blessed Shield Eternal shield-throwing with Ethereal buffs and zero resource anxiety. Active only when Ethereal Omens exist on the map. The Crusader Blessed Shield build punishes anyone who said the class was boring.
     Best time: 2 min 53 sec: GR150
  6. Witch Doctor: Mundunugu Spirit Barrage Channel Spirit Barrage, release, explosion. Rinse. The Witch Doctor Mundunugu build plays exactly as complicated as it sounds: which is not very. 3:04 is slower than the top but still GR150-capable with proper Ethereal rolls.
     Best time: 3 min 04 sec: GR150
  7. Barbarian: Raekor Boulder Toss Charge five times, throw boulder. More rage means more damage: an accurate metaphor for the class. Finishing GR150 in 4 minutes should not embarrass you. It would in any other season.
     Best time: ~4 min: GR150

How to Farm Ethereals Without Losing Your Mind

Ethereals follow smart loot rules: they drop for your current class. There is no deep strategy here. Level to 70, farm rifts, clear Greater Rifts above 70 to unlock Primal Ancient Ethereals. The Ethereal farming guide principle is brutal in its simplicity: more clears, more drops, more chances at the right power roll.

  • Farm speed GRs (GR90–110 range) for volume. Higher GRs mean more legendary drops per hour.
  • Clear GR70 first to unlock Primal Ancient Ethereal drops. Non-negotiable.
  • You can craft Primal Ancient Ethereals via Kanai's Cube: but the Legendary power rerolls randomly. Use this only when you have a perfect base stat roll and you're gambling on the power.
  • Collect all 21 Ethereals (one per class type, across all classes) for the Ethereal Recollection Feat of Strength and permanent transmog unlock.

The wrong Legendary power on an Ethereal is a significant damage loss. Check every drop immediately. Legacy (outdated) versions of powers are the worst-case scenario. Keep farming.

Season Journey Priorities

The Diablo 3 Season Journey guide priority order is the same every season: complete Chapters 1–4 fast to unlock three Haedrig's Gifts, then push the Journey at your own pace. The Conqueror tier rewards an extra stash tab: one per season, up to five total. Do not skip it.

  • Chapters 1–4: Free 6-piece set from Haedrig's Gifts. Priority one. Drop everything else.
  • Guardian tier: Season's end-goal cosmetics and portrait frame. Worth completing once.
  • Conquests: Five available; complete two for Guardian tier. Pick the easiest two for your class.
  • Conqueror tier: Stash tab reward. The only permanent reward that affects future seasons.
  • Paragon levels: Don't ignore them. Stats compound. A fully-geared character at Paragon 400 underperforms the same build at Paragon 800.

Diablo 3 Season 38 Best Builds FAQ

What is the best class in Diablo 3 Season 38?

Wizard clears GR150 in under two minutes. If "best" means fastest, Wizard wins. No debate.

Can every class clear Greater Rift 150 in Season 38?

Yes. Ethereal weapons make GR150 achievable for all seven classes. Barbarian takes longest at ~4 minutes.

Do Ethereal weapons carry over after the season ends?

No. They disappear completely. Only transmog options persist: and only if you completed the Feat of Strength.

Should I reroll my Ethereal with Kanai's Cube for better powers?

Only if base stats are perfect. The Legendary power rerolls randomly: expect waste before results.

Which starter set is actually the best push build too?

Demon Hunter (Marauder) and Barbarian (Raekor). Both starter sets remain top push builds all season.
