A Skyzip is a portable aerial zipline device: press the button, a balloon ascends into the sky, a zipline cable deploys, and you grab it to travel at speed in a specific direction. It functions as a deployable, player-carried mobility item: somewhere between Chapter 1's ziplines and something you'd find in an Apex Legends fever dream at Fortnite boosting service.
The official Chapter 7 Season 2 Showdown trailer confirmed exactly how they work in combat: a Battle Pass character dodges a Mythic Goldfish (do not ask), deploys a Skyzip, ascends to high ground via the balloon-mounted zipline, and promptly eliminates her Rival from a position of total dominance. The Skyzip fits into Season 2's broader movement philosophy, which is apparently "get off the ground at all times." With the new Rivalry system pushing players to actively hunt marked enemies and take fights rather than hide behind trees until the top 10, mobility becomes genuinely critical: and not just for cowardly rotations into the final circle.
Skyzips don't exist in a vacuum, even if your game sense does. Chapter 7 Season 2 is built around the Rivalry system: a bounty-style mechanic where you mark enemies and hunt them for in-match buffs and rewards. In this context, Skyzips are the tool that makes hunting viable. Getting between these areas quickly and unpredictably is where Skyzips earn their place in your loadout.
The map has also reportedly been redesigned with vertical and fast-movement gameplay in mind: meaning the layout actively expects you to be using tools like this. The Skyzip isn't a gimmick. It's infrastructure. Treat it accordingly, or continue being the person who walks everywhere and wonders why they keep dying to rotations.
For comparison: Chapter 1 Season 9 had Slipstreams: aerial wind tunnels baked into the map. Chapter 5 Season 3 had Nitro. Skyzips are the personal, pocketable evolution of that design lineage. Epic has been doing this for years and you act surprised every time and every loose without Fortnite Battle Royale carry.
Skyzips are, objectively, a good addition to Fortnite's increasingly crowded movement toolbox. They give players genuine tactical flexibility: personal high-ground access, aggressive repositioning, and emergency rotation in a single pocket-sized item. In a season built around hunting rivals and forced engagements, that flexibility isn't just useful: it's necessary.
Will you use them wisely? Almost certainly not. You'll carry one through fifteen minutes of a match, forget it exists under pressure, and get eliminated by someone who deployed theirs with ruthless precision from a rooftop you didn't check. But that's the beauty of a new Fortnite season: everyone gets new toys, and some people actually use them on Fortnite STW service.

Based on the trailer, the zipline appears usable once deployed: meaning yes, your elaborate escape route can absolutely be hijacked by an enemy who will then arrive exactly where you were going. You've been warned. You'll still be surprised.
Inventory slot rules apply, so realistically one or two if you sacrifice something actually important. You'll agonize over this choice and then never use either of them.
The balloon needs vertical clearance to deploy, so outdoors and open structures are your friend. Attempting to use it inside a fully built box will result in your balloon hitting a ceiling and your dignity hitting the floor.
It provides something no map-based zipline can offer: placement entirely on your terms. Combine it with the Rivalry system's need for aggressive positioning and it becomes arguably the most tactically flexible mobility option of the season.
Mobility items have historically been available in both Build and Zero Build modes. Given that Zero Build already leans heavily on movement to compensate for the lack of structures, Skyzips should be present and arguably even more impactful there: where you can't just build your way out of a bad position.
