FFXIV patch 7.55 drops on July 28, 2026, and it is a heavy one. Alongside the usual maintenance headache, this update finally closes out the final stage of the Phantom Relic Weapons, opens the Occult Crescent: North Horn, wraps up the Hildibrand saga, and hands us the Allied Society capstone quest. If your weekend plans just got cancelled, blame Gerolt.
The short version for anyone skimming: get your relic weapon as far as possible before the patch, and make sure your progress in Occult Crescent South Horn is not sitting at zero. Everything else in this guide exists to help you do exactly that without losing your sanity.
If you have never touched this content, head to the Expedition Messenger in Tuliyollal at X17 Y11.8. This unlocks Phantom Village, your permanent hub for anything relic related, and you can jump back in anytime through the passage on the Tuliyollal Pier. Grab the quest Arcane Artistry and go find Gerolt, who will once again pretend he did not personally cause everyone's suffering during Endwalker.
The first weapon stage, item level 745 Penumbrae, requires a one time collection of six different Demiatma, three of each type, eighteen total. These drop from FATEs and critical encounters inside Occult Crescent, or from FATEs across various Dawntrail zones. Since this step only needs doing once per character, running it through Dawntrail zone FATEs is efficient because you can also farm bicolor gemstones and level up neglected jobs at the same time. Gemstones convert into Tural gem vouchers, which still sell for a solid chunk of gil on the market board.
Once this one time step is done, every additional weapon for your other jobs only costs 1500 Allagan Tomestones of Mathematics. That is it. Board an A rank hunt train or knock out daily roulettes and you are set.
Stage two asks for a handful of crafted materials, easily bought off the market board if crafting is not your thing. After that you receive the Aetherwell Array, another one time key item requiring 10,000 points spread across four categories: high level dungeons, alliance raids, normal raids, and trials, all filled through daily duty roulettes. Daily bonuses vary wildly, sometimes half the normal amount, sometimes six times as much, so plan your roulette order around whichever category is lagging.
Do not try to rush the Aetherwell Array in a weekend. It rewards patience, not burnout, and there is no benefit to logging in for twelve hours straight when the North Horn content will still be there next week.
The third stage needs roughly 500,000 gil worth of Umbral Clay plus three crafted items, again purchasable on the market board. Then comes the big one: 1200 total Crystal Paste, delivered in milestones of 100, 200, 300, and 600. Crystal Paste comes from nearly everything: critical encounters, roulettes, normal and savage raids, and even FATEs, so it stacks up naturally while you play. Once finished, every job unlocks the same 1500 tomestone purchase for its own weapon, with zero further daily restrictions.
| Stage | Requirement | Frequency |
|---|---|---|
| Penumbra | 18 Demiatma (3 per type) | One time only |
| Umbra | Crafted materials plus 10,000 Aetherwell points | One time only |
| Obscurum | 500k gil materials plus 1200 Crystal Paste | One time only |
| Any subsequent job | 1500 Tomestones of Mathematics | Repeatable |
Before North Horn opens, make sure you have unlocked all zones and quests in Occult Crescent South Horn and reached phantom camp level 20. Your gear syncs to item level 700 here, so secondary stats actually matter, unlike most sync content. The real priority, though, is mastering Phantom Jobs. Every mastered job grants a permanent 2 percent additive damage and healing bonus inside the zone, and walking into North Horn with zero mastered jobs means the new bosses will treat you like a speed bump.
If you are relearning mechanics or starting fresh, go in as a tank. Warrior in particular can shrug off multiple vulnerability stacks thanks to its self healing kit, which buys you time to actually learn the fight instead of dying to it. Paladin works well too. Tanking also happens to be the easiest way to farm gold coins, which is not the noblest reason to pick a role, but it works.
The conclusion to the Hildibrand Dawntrail questline arrives with this patch, following Hildibrand, Nashu, and Hardiboiled as their pursuit of Carnelian finally wraps up in Living Memory and Solution Nine. You cannot pick up the new chapters unless you are fully caught up on the previous storyline, so check your journal now rather than on patch day. Historically, Hildibrand finales hand out solid cosmetic rewards, so this is not optional if you like mounts and emotes.
The Allied Society capstone quest ties together the Pelupelu, Mamool Ja, and Yok Huy storylines into one final chapter. The catch is that you need maximum reputation with all three societies before it unlocks, and daily beast tribe allowances are limited, meaning you cannot power grind this the moment the patch drops. If your reputation grind has been sitting untouched, start today.
North Horn expands Occult Crescent into a new volcanic tundra zone, raises the Knowledge level cap, and introduces additional Phantom Jobs alongside new bosses and encounters. The patch also brings Forked Tower: Magic, the new large scale raid, tuned with feedback from the previous Forked Tower in mind. None of this includes new Main Scenario chapters or the Beastmaster job, both of which are saved for patch 7.56 in September, so manage your expectations accordingly.
There is not much reason to stockpile items right now. FATE farming for gil doubles nicely as relic progress during steps one and three, so combine the two instead of running separate grinds. Expect item prices for North Horn drops to be absurd on release day, so skip the market board entirely and just go farm the content yourself once it is live.
Patch 7.55 is a genuinely large content drop, and trying to finish every relic stage, master every Phantom Job, and clear every roulette before July 28 is a fast way to hate the game by August. Progress steadily, prioritize the Aetherwell and Crystal Paste steps since they have the longest natural grind, and enjoy the new zone without rushing through it.

Patch 7.55 releases July 28, 2026, alongside scheduled maintenance on the same day.
You need eighteen total, three each of six different Demiatma types, but only once ever.
Crystal Paste unlocks the final Phantom Weapon stage, requiring 1200 total split across four milestones.
Yes, unlock all zones, reach phantom level 20, and master jobs to avoid feeling weak.
No, Beastmaster and the Main Scenario conclusion arrive later, in patch 7.56.
