Diablo 4 Star Coordinate Season 13 Guide
Corrupted Roots are Season 13's best endgame farm. Our guide covers every zone reward, War Plans unlock path, and efficiency tips to maximize your For
Corrupted Roots are a rare level-73 consumable introduced in patch 3.0 alongside the Lord of Hatred expansion. You do not find them in the wild. You do not get them for showing up. They drop exclusively from Whisper Caches earned through Tree of Whispers bounties, and only after you have climbed far enough into the War Plans skill tree to unlock the relevant node. Consider it Blizzard's way of gatekeeping the good loot behind a chore checklist.
Planting a root in any active combat zone immediately spawns an Exposed Root: a permanent enemy lure that drags nearby monsters toward it and escalates their difficulty. Better loot potential, more chaos, and a very good reason to stand near a blacksmith. The item does nothing for your stats directly. It simply invites more demons to die in an organized fashion. How thoughtful.
Corrupted Roots cannot be planted in safe towns, rest areas, or player hubs. If you attempt this and feel confused, step away from the D4 builds.
The War Plans system is Season 13's structured endgame playlist, introduced with Lord of Hatred. It lets you queue up to five activities and collect consolidated rewards at the end. The Tree of Whispers sits alongside it with its own skill tree, and that is where Corrupted Roots live. Spend your points poorly and you will never see one.
The left path of the Tree of Whispers skill tree is what you want. It unlocks Corrupted Roots drops from Whisper Caches and scales from there. Here is the relevant node chain:
The middle path is widely recommended as the overall best investment and ends with a chance to receive Resplendent Sparks from Whisper Caches. Once you have your Corrupted Roots pipeline stable, route points toward the middle for long-term Mythic crafting gains.
Each region of Sanctuary produces fixed guaranteed drops when you plant a Corrupted Root there. Wandering into a random Helltide and planting wherever you feel like it is a perfectly valid strategy for people who enjoy wasting their own time. For everyone else, consult the table.

Hawezar remains the top destination for most endgame players chasing Forgotten Souls farming. These are among the hardest upgrade materials to stockpile, and a well-run Hawezar Helltide generates them at a rate that would make a normal farming session weep. Scosglen earns second billing because Sigil Powder is the exclusive ingredient for crafting occultist tributes: and this is currently the only efficient source for it in the game. That's not a selling point, that's a monopoly.
Not just any zone. A Helltide. The Roots of Power node doubles your rewards specifically inside Helltides. Running this outside one is a charitable donation to the void. Make sure the Helltide endgame farming location matches the material or gear type you need per the table above.
The loot volume from a single active Exposed Root is substantial. You will be making frequent blacksmith visits to salvage and manage inventory. Planting your root within sprinting distance of a Blacksmith NPC is the single biggest quality-of-life decision in this entire method. Ignore this tip and enjoy your scenic walks across the map hauling sixty pieces of gear you can't hold.
A functional loot filter Diablo 4 setup is not optional here. The Exposed Root event floods the ground with drops. Without a filter tuned to your current build's needs, you will spend more time reading item tooltips than killing things. Configure it before you enter the zone, not after your inventory is full and you're standing in a pile of magic boots you don't want a D4 bosses boost.
Your charm slots carry an affix called percentage increased crafting material drops. Across six charm slots on a well-rolled talisman, this stacks to roughly 28% more materials on average rolls, up to 67% if every slot lands a greater affix in the stat. That is not a marginal improvement. Swap out your damage charms for material charms for dedicated farming sessions, provided you can still clear content without embarrassing yourself. Do not break your five-set bonus in the process. You still need to kill things.
All material drops from Corrupted Roots are currently shared to every party member. A full group of four players all receive the full haul. This is one of the rare instances where the game rewards socialization. Find three other humans running the same method and multiply your efficiency by four. Or run it solo and receive exactly one share of the rewards because you made that choice.
A secondary method that has emerged pairs Corrupted Roots with Nightmare Dungeons. The runs approximately ten minutes and produces XP, gear, Mythic Tributes, and crafting materials simultaneously. The core mechanic: enter a Nightmare Dungeon that is active as a Tree of Whispers bounty, plant a root near a shrine inside, activate the shrine, and let the stored souls from kills detonate en masse when it expires. Combined with the Exposed Root's enemy density, this generates mobs in quantities that would be considered a health code violation.
You do not even need to finish the dungeon. You also do not need a Nightmare Dungeon Sigil for dungeons currently listed as Whisper events on your map. Walk in, plant, kill, leave. Four or five are typically active at once if all expansions are installed.

More Whisper Caches equals more Corrupted Roots. Caches come from Whisper bounty points. Here is where to spend your time, ranked by point return and time cost: because not all five-point events are created equal.
|
Activity |
Points |
Notes |
|
Nightmare Dungeons |
5 |
No sigil needed for whisper-active dungeons. Speed-run to the end. Do not clear everything unless required. |
|
World Bosses |
5 |
Fixed spawn timer. Set an alarm. Show up, collect five points, leave. Simple. |
|
Legion Events |
3 |
Quick. Drop relevant loot. Worth attending when active. |
|
PvP Abomination5+ |
8 |
Kill the mini-boss () and purify seeds dropped for 3 additional points. Best point-per-event in the game. Two PvP zones available. |
|
Helltide Maiden |
5 |
Summon, kill, teleport out. The mysterious chest is and costs far too much time. Skip it unless you're bored or it is a War Plan objective. |
|
Undercity |
3 |
Fast three points. Always worth it. Good baseline loot regardless. |
|
The Pits |
3 |
Tier does not matter for whisper credit. Run the lowest tier you can complete instantly. |
|
Lair Bosses |
Var. |
Check your boss keys in inventory. A Tree of Whispers symbol on a key means that boss is currently active as a bounty. Easy to miss due to overlapping map icons. |
The PvP Abomination is objectively the highest-yield Whisper activity at eight points per zone per spawn. Most players ignore the seed purification step entirely and leave three free points on the ground. Those players are wrong, and now you are not one of D4 bundles.
Corrupted Roots are the current meta for greater affix gear farming. The enemy density from an Exposed Root, combined with the guaranteed loot tables per zone, makes this the most targeted method available. Once gear drops, the Season 13 crafting stack handles the rest: Tempering adds affixes without touching existing Greater Affix rolls, the Horadric Cube transmutes three ancestral uniques into a new one with a Greater Affix chance, and the Occultist's preserve feature locks in rolls before risky rerolls. Never transmute a non-ancestral item in the Cube with ancestral pieces. The output downgrades. This is documented. There is no reason to discover this personally.
Salvage duplicate gear into crafting materials continuously. Running dry on Tempering or Enchanting resources mid-session because you kept every drop "just in case" is a self-inflicted wound.
This method demands a best farming build Diablo 4 Season 13. Specifically, something with strong AoE clear and high mobility. The Exposed Root packs enemies tightly. A build that cannot process large groups quickly wastes the density advantage entirely. Check the current tier list for your class before committing several hours to a method your build cannot support. Wearing material-farming charms also costs you damage. If that trade makes you unable to clear content, either upgrade your build first or accept the damage charms and farm more slowly. There is no trick that bypasses having a functional character.

No. The first two nodes handle the core. Headrotten Feast adds a roughly 20% boss spawn chance: convenient, not required.
Yes, but you forfeit the doubled rewards from Roots of Power. Planting outside Helltide is legal. It is also suboptimal.
It is currently the only reliable method for efficient Sigil Powder volume anywhere in the game. No alternatives exist at this scale.
Simply being in a party of up to four players is sufficient. All material drops from the root event distribute to every member automatically.
PvP zone Abomination kills yield eight total points per zone when seeds are purified: the highest single-activity return available.
