Cache is back in CS2 competitive play after seven years. Learn every callout, the mid fight, and how A and B site executes actually work.
Cache spent seven years out of the competitive rotation and came back with a full rebuild rather than a coat of paint. The layout is still the one veterans remember, three lanes running from T Spawn into Mid, A, and B, but several details changed enough to matter at a high level.
Cache rejoined CS2 Competitive, Casual, Deathmatch, and Retakes on April 28, 2026, then joined the Active Duty pool on July 6, 2026, replacing Overpass after a seven year absence from top level play. Mid control still decides most rounds, and early data already has the map running slightly T sided rather than balanced.
| Quick fact | Detail |
|---|---|
| Original creators | Shawn FMPONE Snelling and Sal Volcano Garozzo |
| Setting | Industrial zone inspired by Pripyat, near Chernobyl |
| Away from Active Duty | 2019 to 2026, about seven years |
| Rejoined competitive modes | April 28, 2026 |
| Rejoined Active Duty | July 6, 2026, replacing Overpass |
| Early pro CT win rate | 48.5 percent, slightly T sided |
The cache map cs2 version is not the same file as the old Workshop remakes players used during the seven year gap. Valve bought the map from FMPONE specifically to rebuild it in Source 2, and the result plays close to the CS:GO original with a cleaner, more industrial look and better lighting throughout.
| Feature | CS:GO version | CS2 version |
|---|---|---|
| Mid CT window | Full hold position with cover | Removed, replaced by a narrow utility gap only |
| B site lamp | Present | Removed |
| Visual style | Original FMPONE Workshop palette | Rebuilt textures, sharper industrial lighting |
Cache has around fifty named spots in total, but a working team only needs the core fifteen to communicate cleanly. Learning cs2 cache callouts by zone, Mid, A, and B, is faster than trying to memorize the full list at once.
| Mid callout | What it is |
|---|---|
| Mid | The central lane connecting T Spawn to both sites |
| Garage | Large structure by T Spawn leading into Mid, common early cover |
| Boost | Boost spot in Mid where players stack to peek over the wall |
| Sandbags | Sandbag stack near Mid Roof, a common holding position |
| Highway | Short ramp leading from Mid up toward A Site |
| Vents | Direct route from Mid through to B Site |
| White Box | Large box at the end of Highway, used to peek Garage |
| A site callout | What it is |
|---|---|
| A Main | Primary T corridor into A, heavily utilized on executes |
| Squeaky | Loud door entrance to A, named for the sound it makes |
| Quad | Stack of four boxes on A, one of the most fought over spots |
| Forklift | Forklift vehicle on A used as cover and a holding angle |
| Truck | CT side truck with a direct sightline into A Main |
| B site callout | What it is |
|---|---|
| B Main | Direct T corridor into B Site |
| Checkers | Area on B named for its floor pattern, connects to Vents |
| Heaven | Elevated CT position overlooking B, reached from CT Halls |
| Hell | Main open area leading into B from CT Spawn |
| Headshot | Small cubby below B with a headshot only angle on B Main |
| Pit | Small dip under B Site with a sightline into Checkers |
cache mid control decides more rounds than either bombsite fight, since Mid connects directly to both A and B. A team that wins the early Mid duel can split A through Highway and Squeaky at the same time, or fake toward A and hit B through Vents once CTs commit rotations.
Cache's early 48.5 percent CT win rate at the pro level comes from only 236 tracked matches across sixteen teams, a small sample by competitive standards. Treat any current map statistic as an early read rather than a settled verdict on how balanced the map actually plays.
cache a site has two real entry points, A Main and Squeaky, which means CTs cannot fully commit to stopping one without opening the other. Quad and Forklift give defenders strong trade positions, but both require support from Mid, since a CT alone on A with no Mid pressure gets split without much of a fight.
cache b site plays more vertical than A, with Heaven giving CTs a wide overview and Checkers acting as the natural funnel point from both Vents and B Main. Ts who take Mid first can pressure B through Vents while the main group still holds B Main, which forces CTs to split attention between two angles instead of one.
cache awp play is strong because Mid and B Main both offer long, honest sightlines with few close angles to punish a slow peek. A CT AWPer holding from Sandbags or Heaven controls a huge amount of space with a single well timed shot, which is why teams build entire executes around clearing or avoiding those exact spots first.
cache utility spending is more about space than kills. A smoke on Mid Boost or the White Box angle buys time to cross without a free pick, while a flash through Squeaky or over Highway lets a T team step onto A without trading a player for information. CTs get the same value in reverse, using smokes to block Highway and Vents so rotations do not walk into an open lane.
cache t side strategy starts and ends with Mid. Good teams pressure Garage and Boost early, take space with utility rather than bodies, and only commit to a site once Mid is either won outright or traded evenly enough to split safely.
cache ct side setups also lean on Mid rather than sitting purely on the bombsites. A CT holding Sandbags or the Mid Roof denies free information and slows the T timing, which buys the rest of the team extra seconds to rotate once the real site gets committed.
Cache rewards the same fundamentals that make any map work, information first and space second, but the long sightlines and honest angles make cs2 cache tips less about tricks and more about discipline. Learn the fifteen core callouts, respect Mid, and the rest of the map gets much easier to read.

Mid, Garage, A Main, Squeaky, B Main, Checkers, and Heaven cover most in game communication on Cache.
Mid connects to both bomb sites, so whichever team holds it can split A or hit B with an advantage.
Early pro data shows a 48.5 percent CT win rate, making Cache slightly T sided so far this season.
Valve removed the old CT mid window and the B site lamp, and rebuilt the map with sharper industrial visuals.
Long sightlines through Mid and B Main let AWPers hold multiple angles at once, rewarding patience over rushing.
