Apex Legends Aftershock Event

Aftershock is the Season 28 midseason event for Apex Legends, developed by Respawn Entertainment and published by Electronic Arts. It turns Wildcard mode into a high-voltage electromagnetic battlefield, giving every Legend universal access to new shield and EMP mechanics that fundamentally change how firefights play out.

Running three weeks from March 31 to April 21, 2026, the event ships alongside the 28.1 patch and brings significant Legend updates, a new Elite weapon variant, a Prestige skin for Fuse, and a full suite of limited-time cosmetics. Charged Up is the Aftershock event's dedicated Wildcard game mode. Every Legend — regardless of their class or kit — receives two universal abilities powered by a shared energy system. Managing your battery becomes as important as aiming.

Vortex Shield

Raise the shield to catch incoming bullets, then release to fire them directly back at whoever shot you. Energy drains while active and recharges by picking up EVO from downed enemies or the environment.

EMP Blast

A burst that stuns nearby enemies and damages placeable objects such as Wattson fences and Rampart walls. The EMP Battery recharges via EVO collection, blocking damage with the Vortex Shield, or through Wild Card bonuses.

Key Nuances & Strategy Notes

• Both the Vortex Shield and EMP Blast draw from the same energy economy — using one depletes what's available for the other, so timing your switches matters.
• The Vortex Shield does not absorb infinite bullets; heavy incoming fire drains it faster, so reflections are best saved for burst moments, not sustained beams.
• Reflected bullets deal damage at their original values — getting a whole squad's fire caught and sent back can delete a target instantly.
• EVO collection for recharging rewards aggressive play and third-partying, incentivizing faster rotations and contested zones.
• Placeable-object meta is heavily disrupted — Wattson fences, Rampart walls, and Newcastle barriers all become EMP targets in the new mode.

Nine New Wild Cards

Aftershock introduces nine electric-themed Wild Cards that upgrade or fundamentally alter how the Vortex Shield and EMP Blast behave. Players select these during matches to define their power loadout. Cool bonus for Apex Legends account progression

The 28.1 patch introduces targeted updates to three Legends to shift the Split 2 meta. Gibraltar receives the most significant rework, addressing his historically low pick rate.

Aftershock debuts the Elite Hemlok as a new mid-range weapon variant arriving with the 28.1 patch. It departs significantly from the base Hemlok's burst-fire identity. Great for Apex Legends badges.

Alongside the event, the Elysium POI on Olympus has been moved to the map's northeast corner. This geographic shift alters rotation paths and loot distribution on the map. For the duration of Aftershock, the active map rotation in pubs and ranked is:

The Aftershock event introduces Fuse's first ever Prestige (Mythic-tier) skin, called Apex Inferno. It features a futuristic biker aesthetic in black and silver armor that evolves visually across three tiers as damage is dealt while playing Fuse. Tier 3 unlocks an exclusive custom finisher called "Light it up" and a dedicated dive trail.

The Reward Shop operates on Cells currency, earned through limited-time challenges. Two rotating sets of free rewards are available at different windows during the event.

Six Legendary Legend skins available for 1,800 Apex Coins or 2,400 Crafting Metals each. Also obtainable as possible drops from Aftershock Packs. Stays in the store past the event end date until May 5.

28.1 Audio Patch Notes

• Hardlight mesh shattering volume has been lowered following community feedback.
• Enemy footstep volume is increased for targets outside the player's field of view, with volume scaling further based on how far behind the player the source is: footsteps directly behind the player are the loudest.
